If you're a cheese lover with a passion for exploring new flavors and hidden gems, a London cheese tour is the ultimate way to indulge your taste buds while discovering the city's rich culinary scene. From traditional cheesemongers with centuries of history to trendy markets offering artisanal creations, London is a haven for fromage fans. In this post, I’ll take you on a delicious journey through some of the capital’s best spots to sample, shop, and savour cheese in all its glorious forms.

Powered by GetYourGuideI booked this tour through Get Your Guide, which made the process really straightforward—and it already has over 150 positive reviews, so I felt confident it would be a good experience. Even though I live in London, I'm always curious to see it through a new lens. There’s something exciting about discovering places, stories, and flavours that you might otherwise overlook in your own city.

London Cheese Tour: Fortnum & Mason

This London cheese tour started near Green Park station, and our first stop was the cheese hall at Fortnum & Mason's. We tried a few different varieties of cheese from around the UK, including a goat cheese and a Cornish yarg. This crumbly young cheese is then covered in a nettle rind, which makes for a unique experience. The name Yarg comes from the Gray family, who decided to name their cheese their last name backwards. Afterall, gray isn't the most appealing word for a cheese. We also had some time to look around the food hall at the unique condiments.

After Fortnum & Mason's, we walked over to Paxton & Whitfield, where Winston Churchill bought his cheese. Of course, the tour had to include a tasting of probably the most famous British cheese, Stilton. I personally love it, but it does have an extremely strong flavour.

Our next stop was a little bit unconventional - Whole Foods. We tried some more modern varieties, including a truffle brie that they make in store and parmesan crisps. We also stopped for some bubbly in store. On the last stop on the London cheese tour, we went to Lina Stores, a staple Italian delicatessen. The store has been opened when large numbers of Italians moved to Covent Garden Area. We tried a few Italian cheeses, including a hard cheese that had been aged in red wine.
