Glyndebourne Opera Experience
Glynedbourne was the first opera I went to, and it was such a wonderful experience. I saw L'Elixir D'Amore, which was a great opera for first-timers. It's a comedy, so it's easy to follow along with. The props and costumes were magnificent and made it even more captivating. Glyndebourne does offer discounted tickets if you are under the age of 40. If you sign up for their under-40 programme, you could get up to 50% off your tickets.
Meals at Glyndebourne
Most people will bring their own picnic to Glynebourne. While there are a few benches available, you'll probably want to bring a picnic blanket. If you're coming by car, it would definitely be nice to bring a few picnic chairs to sit on. If you don't want to pack your own picnic, there is an option to order a pre-made picnic. You can also book a picnic table under the cover of a canopy if you want to be covered for inclement weather.Typically, people arrive on the grounds of Glyndebourne well-before the start of the show to enjoy the grounds and set up their picnic. There is an intermission in the show where you can come back out into the garden to enjoy your picnic. When I arrived, I was a bit confused about where I was supposed to leave my picnic while I went inside to enjoy the first act. Being from the city, I don't typically trust to leave my things outside of my view. Not to mention, I was concerned about little critters getting into my food, but all was well in the end. There are a number of restaurants you can make a reservation at Glyndebourne, which serve canapes and afternoon tea before the performance, and dinner during the long intercal.
Glyndebourne takes pride in having a dresscode that's adhered to. Women typically wear formal dresses, and men wear a suit or a tux. You definitely want to take the environment into consideration of the outfit choices. If you are doing a DIY picnic, you'll want to wear something that will be comfortable to sit on the ground.
